Hey, hi, hello!!
February has flown by and it's already my favourite day of the month: OWLCRATE!! So, it's actually been a few days since I received my box but I'm sharing it now - better late than never! I also have an exciting announcement (for me anyway) below, so keep reading!

The last few months on this blog have been amazing and given me great opportunities including chairing my first event but after thinking it over for a while, I think it's time to say goodbye to Booklycat. Wait, no! I don't mean I'm shutting it down. I'm 100% still blogging - I've just decided that it was time to rebrand. In case you haven't realised, you're no longer on booklycat.co.uk... Welcome to:
EMMANOVELLA.CO.UK WHY AM I DOING THIS?
Back in 2015 I won NaNoWriMo, but last year I was working a lot so I wasn't able to participate. I signed up again this year but when November came I didn't write. I didn't even think about actively participating in NaNo. I was adamant I'd start working on my novel in the new year - a fresh start.
Until yesterday. Apologies for the brief post, but as I'm sure you know, NaNo is crazy and being so far behind (15-20K!!) I'm writing like mad.
To start of, I'll warn you all that I am currently choked with the cold and it's 11pm so I just want to go to sleep, but first of all, I feel awful for abandoning the blog this last week and I just want to quickly update you all on where I've been and what's going on with my lack of organisation.
This last week I was AWOL as I was on holiday in Spain. I had planned to give a warning and share the books I was taking with me but, as you can tell, I never got around to posting... or writing it. I'm not going to lie, life has been hectic and a bit of a mess for me right now - more so than usual - and I was in the midst of composing a discussion post where I talk about my health and whatnot and why I've thus struggled to stick to a schedule and not been able to produce regular, decent content but obviously I never finished it... because of the reasons I was writing about. Catch-22. Once I get over this cold (hopefully in the next day or two at most) I plan to work on the aforementioned discussion post and get it up sometime before my birthday on the 11th so I can start my 21st year nice and fresh without hiding things. Booklycat might be a book blog first and foremost, but it's also my blog and I want to share things that I feel like sharing. As I said, my head/life is all a bit messy right now and trying to figure things out is tough, but I'll get there, and I will share what's going on when I'm ready and able to because I want to talk about it. But for now I'm just trying to get lost in books and then hopefully along the way, find the strength and mojo to pour out my passion for the stories I read on here. No, your eyes aren't deceiving you - I am no longer booklycat.weebly but simply booklycat! That's right - I bought my own domain name. I want to take blogging more seriously and I am very proud of the work I put in to making this site what it is but it was lacking in some professionalism, so I spent a few months debating over wether or not to take the plunge but I figured I have nothing to lose and perhaps this will give me a boost and help to keep on track and figure out a schedule.
Gosh, I don't want to think about how long it's been since I last posted.
Things have been crazy for me this last month and a bit but I have big plans to get myself back on track but before I dive right into the usual book posts I wanted to have a little catch up with you all! Hi, hello, aloha, bonjour, and all other greetings in different languages!
Welcome, welcome, to BOOKLYCAT! (Anyone get the reference?) In case you haven't read the 'ABOUT' page let me take this time to introduce myself. My name is Emma, I am 20 years old and live in Edinburgh, Scotland. I love reading.. surprisingly.. and am most definitely a crazy cat lady. I only have one cat - whom you will probably see in posts to come! - but I spend a lot of time with 12 gorgeous little fur babies at the cat cafe in Edinburgh! I am a huuuuuggeeee Hamilton fan, along with many other musicals, so you may see some references here and there - I just can't help myself! Anyway! Can we get back to books (please?) (Whoops, musical reference number 1 right there!) I read loads when I was a kid and have fond memories of falling asleep in the middle of a chapter and waking up to the book quite literally in my face. As I've grown older I have learnt to put the book down before that happens, especially as I read a considerable amount more hardbacks. I'd rather not drop one on my head! High school put a stop to my reading, but not my love of books. I'll be very honest with you all here as I see no reason to hide; I went through a very rough time with my mental health during my high school years and I just lost interest in everything. I read my books for school but nothing else. I missed the Shadowhunters, Hunger Games, etc craze and I hadn't even read Harry Potter until 2011! I always knew I loved books. I felt a warmth when I went past the school library and I always loved browsing and thinking some sounded so cool. I could just never get into them the way I used to. And then by chance one day I was wandering around handing CVs into stores when I spied an advertisement for a part-time bookseller in Waterstones! I couldn't believe it! Handed in my CV, got an interview and then landed the job! I worked there for over two years and it was the best time of my life. The staff were great, (most) of the customers were great, the job was great. My mental health was not. Unfortunately I have now left the company, but those two and a half years have given me invaluable experience - and gave me back my love of reading. I still struggle, and I definitely have reading slumps. But I am now so in love with books, stories, adventures and the power of books and I am so excited to share what I find in these tomes with you all! I hope you all enjoy reading my blog and will join me over on my bookstagram for more bookish posts as well as my twitter account for random musings about musicals, TV and life in general. You can find links to these on the contact page. I look forward to seeing where this blog can go and bringing you all with me! Emma. PS. You may just want to check out my bookstagram for a very special post announcing the beginning of the booklycat blog! |
