If you're a booklover I guarantee at some point in your life you have uttered the words "I wish I could be paid to read books." Of course, some booklovers do - editors and other publishing related jobs technically pay people to read stories all day! Even some bloggers get payment to promote a book they've been sent (hi, hello, publishers... I am willing to read for free - just send me the physical book!) In all seriousness-ish, this got me thinking... what would be some amazing jobs for booklovers? Or rather, what jobs would we be incredible at... if they existed? Cover-Judger We all do this anyway and publishers need to invest in some sort of YA cover focus group. Seriously - look at the 2018 releases. SO. MANY. PEOPLE. ON. THE. COVERS. Find a nice selection of readers - we can just sit in bed and do a quick survey, meaning we don't miss out on reading time and you get to see why your cover idea was awful and understand what we love! Professional Fangirl Worried you'll be forgotten at a big book event? Too many big-name authors there? Hire a us to scream like crazy when we come across your booth and tell everyone to get a book signed as you'll be huge. Of course, let us read the book first and I guarantee we'll have a line of people waiting before the event starts! Slosh-Pilers There's likely an actual job with a much classier name for this but shhh. Big publishers always have way too many submissions to look at and the bulk of them get shoved on the "slosh pile", ignored for who knows how long. Pay readers to go through the submissions and tell you which ones are the hidden gems! Trust the consumer! I know, I know, Sandra has spent 30 years reading manuscripts and publishing and yadda yadda... except, she hasn't read for pleasure since then... and YA wasn't a thing 30 years ago! Professional Fangirl pt. 2 A surefire way to make someone buy a book is when a stranger recomends it to them (and they aren't a bookseller)! Place us in bookshops to "randomly" pounce on browsers with a recomendation for your book! It's like a real life version of blogging! And a lot more likely to wield results... if not because the other person feels awkward and just wants us off their back but hey! They're going to buy the book! Wooo! Book Turn us into books. Let us be the book. Bookshelf Organiser Do you have a book collection at home just for show? Wish it looked better? Can't figure out why it's a nightmare to find what you're looking for? Fear no more. Hire us and we can arrange your books in a multitude of ways within a couple of hours and then you can pick your favourite. Be prepared to provide numerous cups of tea and chat about your books! Undercover Reviewer Are you a massive blogger with too many books to review? Pay other bookworms to read the ones you don't care about and we can write the review for you! NetGalley Agent Similar to the Undercover Reviewer but specifically to help you whittle down your netgalley arcs! I hope you enjoyed this silly little post! Have I missed any? Please do let me know which job you wish you could have - I think mine would have to be the Bookshelf Organiser!
