There are sooooo many amazing sounding books coming out in 2020 and I just cannot wait to get my hands on them. I'm not going to waffle about I'm just going to dive in and tell you about just a couple of my most anticipated releases of 2020! Harley in the Sky by Akemi Dawn Bowman
We all knew this would be on the list. How could it not be? I've been lucky enough to receive a bound manuscript and have read this already but I am SO excited to get my hands on the finished copy. This comes out in March and I implore you all to pick it up! In HITS, we follow Harley as she runs away from home to join a circus. But the difference in this story is that her parents own a circus in Las Vegas. They just wouldn't let her perform. I can't describe what it is about Akemi's writing that always draws me in. I think it's how real her characters feel and her main protagonists always are so relatable to me. I can feel the pain they go through and we often have similarities or parallels in our lives which I really appreciate. Her characters voice things I've been feeling and UGH IT'S JUST SO GOOD. The Loop by Ben Oliver I NEED THIS BOOK. I love darker stories. I love books about kidnappings or cults and also, I realised after discovering this title, institutions. By this I mean places like psychiatric units or, in the case of The Loop, prisons. I already knew I loved boarding schools in books so why it took me so long to realise these other sorts of places could be lumped together I don't know. I don't know too much about The Loop because I feel it's one of those that could be spoiled a bit by the synopsis and, let's be honest, it sells itself within the first line. It's about someone who's been in the Loop - a prison - for two years.. A prison ran by artificial intelligence?? YES PLEASE!! Break the Fall by Jennifer Iacopelli I heard about and received a sampler of this title back at YALC and what I read didn't let me down from the excitement I felt being told about it. This book follows a girl following her dreams of going to the olympics to compete in gymnastics but her coach gets taken away in handcuffs following accusations from another gymnast. I love gymnastics and follow the USAGym a little so the parallels to this and the Larry Nassar case piqued my interest so I can't wait to get my hands on the finished book! The Hand on the Wall by Maureen Johnson I won't lie to you, I still haven't read The Vanishing Stair but Truly Devious was SO DAMN GOOD THAT I NEED THIS NOW. I also anticipate TVS having a cliffhanger so I'm anticipating this release so I can actually read the second book and not have to worry about any cliffhangers!! My Calamity Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodie Ashton and Jodie Meadows Similar to the above... This is the third book in a series... That I've read none of the books in.. I didn't really want to read My Lady Jane, and then I did and then I didn't and now I'm not sure BUT this book is a Calamity Jane retelling and that movie is what sparked my love of musicals and I just adored it growing up so I couldn't leave this book out of my list!! And there we have just some of my most anticipated 2020 releases. What are you excited for and what have I not got on my list that you think I NEED to know about?!
