October is my favourite month of the year - Autumn, Halloween, my birthday... and you guys SPOILED me with gifts, including books! If you want to see everything else people sent me, my unboxing video is here, but for today, it's my October Book Haul! Gemina: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
The wonderful Justin from Ghost Reader on youtube sent me the sequel to Illuminae and I REALLY NEED TO READ IT. I read Illuminae way back when and it's high time I continued on with this awesome mixed-media (is that what it's called?) sci-fi novel. An Absolutely Remarkable Thing: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... My beautiful welshie, Cerys sent me a copy of her favourite(?) book and I AM DYING TO READ IT! Opposite of Always: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3... Lily sent me this stunning little book that's been getting nothing but praise. I know it deals with grief and I believe some sort of time travel? I could just look it up but shhh. It's late! Maybe in Another Life: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... The fabulous Maureen sent me this book that she's recently read and enjoyed and I can't wait to dive in. It's one of Taylor Jenkins Reid's lesser known novels and it deal with my favourite alternate timeline sort of situation! That Witch: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... This was sent to me by Zoe who bought it purely because it's written by a zoe. I've been telling everyone it involves witches because the title would imply that but now i'm not sure. All I know is it involves two girls - the popular one and the more nerdy one - who get lumped together on a project and I'm pretty sure they fall in love. We'll find out wether there's witches once I read it! Only You: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3... Cerys also sent me this book which is LGBT but I know nothing else because it's short and SPOILERS GIVE ME THE FEAR. All Cats Have Asperger Syndrome: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... Rachael Marie sent me this amazing book which is intended in some way to be humorous but it very much has a lot of truth in it. It's essentially pictures of cats with statements about Aspergers (autism) and it's traits, implying the cats are autistic and have these traits (I believe it, honestly). Love Her Wild: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3... Another from Rachael, she sent me this beautiful collection of poetry... but, it's EN FRANCAIS! I really need to get back into my french so this will be perfect <3 Le Petit Prince: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... As above, this is both from Rachael AND FRENCH! I'm so excited to read this classic in it's original language! Finding Baba Yaga: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3... Cerys sent me this novella in verse and I LOVED IT (spoiler for my wrap up hahah!). It's all about the mythical Baba Yaga and I really really enjoyed it! Moth Girls: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... I saw this second hand and kind of just bought it because I could.. Stolen: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6... This book has a weird backstory to it. First, you'll maybe realise it falls into my "kidnap" type story that I enjoy. But I discovered it years ago when I was a bookseller and a customer wanted a joke gift for her friend. She needed a book titled "stolen". This is what we found. I've wanted to read it ever since and I finally found it second hand so picked it up! The Outsiders: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... I'm sure you've all heard of this classic, published when the author was 17. I somehow still don't really know anything other than gangs?? The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3... The store I bought The Outsiders in had a 2 for £5 deal so I figured I'd find another book and stumbled upon this gorgeous anniversary edition of Tim Burton's book. I'd never read it before but it was nearing Halloween so seemed like a great time to buy it! Save the Cat Writes a Novel: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3... This book. LIFESAVER. If you're not aware, it's essentially a "how to write a novel" manual. I read this in prep for NaNo and it was so helpful - we'll ignore the fact I've failed nano abysmally this year but that's my own fault! I highly suggest this book to anyone who writes fiction. It was so informative and I'd be lost without it! Easy Peasy Puppy Squeezy: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4... And, finally, a puppy training book.. yup... wait you didn't know? I'M GETTING A PUPPY. I am suuuuupper excited. He's a Red/Golden Cocker Spaniel and his name is Hector! If you want to see more of him, he has an instagram (I KNOWWWWW) @hector.cocker. And that's that. Considering most of these were birthday gifts, I'm not mad at the amount of books I got this month - NOW TO ACTUALLY READ THEM!! Emma x
