I won't lie to you, I've spent DAYS trying to work out how to write this review when all I want to do when I think of this book is scream.
IT'S SO GOOD!!!! Elle McNicoll really did it again with this one. I thought A Kind of Spark was something special, but this just went even further. Show Us Who You Are broke me and made me whole again. It DESTROYED ME and filled me with so much hope. I adore Cora, our main character with all my heart. If you somehow don't know, Elle is autistic and she writes autistic characters. This book also had ADHD rep which I really appreciated as someone with both ASD and ADHD. I can't explain to you how incredibly important it is we have neurodivergent authors writing these characters, these stories. It's authentic, it's real, and it's not "inspiration porn" or some sob story about how neurotypicals have to learn to love us. We are just people, and anyone reading Elle's books reads those characters as people. It's showing THEM who WE are. We are all unique and incredible, be us autistic or not and I think Elle's books are going to do wonders for inclusivity. But aside from that, Elle is just an incredible writer. Her plots are wonderful, her characters real, the emotions are strong. I rarely connect to characters in books as much as I do Addie and Cora. I rarely get invested in a story the way I did the witch trials in AKoS or Pomegranate in Show. Elle has such a talent and if you haven't experienced it yet CHANGE THAT. GO READ THE BOOKS. I could ramble for days about this book. About both of Elle's books. But I won't, because I think you get my point. She is an incredible writer and I will never get enough of her work. If you want more in depth reviews I highly recommend checking out the other stops on the blog tour. I'm sure they've all managed to gather themselves better than I have!!
